Terms of Service

Last updated 10 September 2026

Who you are dealing with

TapBill is run by Joel Hart, operating as TapBill, from British Columbia, Canada. By creating an account you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the service.

TapBill is in beta

Beta means the product is still growing — features will be added and refined as we learn what people need. It does not mean your records are provisional. Your time entries and invoices are real data and we treat them that way.

If something looks wrong, please email [email protected] and we will fix it. A bug in a time tracker costs you money, so we would much rather hear about it today than find it ourselves in a month. You can also export everything to CSV whenever you want your own copy.

If we introduce pricing

TapBill costs nothing today. If we introduce paid plans, we will tell you by email before anything changes for you, and we will give you time to decide:

  • Beta accounts — six months notice. If your account was created during the beta and is flagged as such, you will have at least six months from that email before any charge could apply to you.
  • Accounts created after launch — 30 days notice of any new or changed pricing.

When pricing does arrive, our intention is to sit below comparable tools rather than above them. We are not promising the service will be free forever, because that is not a promise we can honestly make. We are promising that you will never be surprised by a charge, and that you will always have enough notice to export everything and leave if you want to.

Your account

Keep your login details to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has access. You are responsible for what happens under your account. One person, one account — do not share a login with people who should have their own.

Your data is yours

Your time entries, clients and invoices belong to you. We do not claim ownership of them and we do not use them for anything except running the service for you. You can export them as CSV from Settings whenever you like, and you can delete your account yourself. How we handle personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy.

Invoices are yours, and so is the responsibility

TapBill helps you produce invoices. It does not check them. We are not accountants, bookkeepers or lawyers, and nothing the app produces is tax, accounting or legal advice. You are responsible for whether an invoice is accurate, whether the tax on it is right, and whether it meets the rules that apply to you and your client. Check your invoices before you send them.

Using it reasonably

Do not use TapBill to break the law, to send invoices for things you did not do, to harass anyone, or to attack, overload or reverse-engineer the service. Do not upload other people's information you have no right to hold. We may suspend or close an account that does these things.

Telling us when something breaks

We would rather hear about a problem than have you work around it. If a total looks wrong, an invoice does not match what you tracked, or anything behaves in a way you did not expect, email [email protected]. Bugs that affect your numbers go to the front of the queue, and we will tell you what we found.

Ending things

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. We may close an account that breaks these terms, and we may discontinue the service — but if we shut TapBill down we will give you notice and a chance to export your data first.

Liability

TapBill is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost profits, lost data, or indirect or consequential losses. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim — which, while the service is free, is nothing. Some places do not allow these limits, in which case they apply only as far as they legally can.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If we do, we will change the date at the top, and for anything that materially affects you we will email you rather than rely on you noticing.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of British Columbia have jurisdiction. Nothing here removes consumer rights you have where you live that cannot be waived.
